Dear EOORC,

Spring is around the corner, and I hope you are enjoying the beautiful sunshine today!

As we approach Holy Week and Easter, I will be sharing one idea each week for church communications. Easter is a wonderful time to welcome new folks to worship. If you’d like to follow along, we will be doing one simple project each week.

This week’s project: Check that your Sunday worship service time is clear and easy to find for visitors. If your worship services alternate between buildings or follow a rhythm other than every Sunday morning, make sure that information is also clear.

Some ideas from churches around EOORC:

  • On a website: put the worship service time in a prominent place (or several prominent places!) which will be easily seen by visitors.
  • For church signs: make sure the worship time is accurate and up-to-date.
  • On social media pages/groups: Make a pinned post about worship times.
  • A simple sign on the door, perhaps covered in a plastic page cover, can be an easy and low-tech way to share service times.
  • Google your church to see what comes up. If the results share information which is no longer accurate, it might be a good idea to get those updated. (For example, if the local community association lists your worship time as 10 am but it is actually now every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 9 am, it would be good to get that up-to-date.)

If you find that this information is already clear, great – and well done! If not, now is a perfect time to make those simple updates. Every church is different, and we don’t all have to have the same communication methods. This isn’t about having the fanciest website or spending hours each week on social media. It is about asking ourselves: If someone is new to my community (or just new to church), could that person easily and reliably find the time to come to Sunday worship?

If you want to share communications ideas or let me know how the project went, please feel free to reach out.

Blessings,

Natalie
